customer history (General)

I am getting some pretty serious glitches with customer history. When I click on 'customers' and then 'history' and leave all the fields at default and click continue. I get all my sales invoices, but a majority of them are incomplete. My invoices typically have 5 - 25 items per invoice, all with different costs per item. Is there any way to remedy this ?

I'd like to see exactly each invoice has, or more importantly I'd like to see just the total amount they've spent in the year, but I don't think sql-ledger has this option.
